Recording Clearly Live Video Conferences

This quick, step-by-step guide explains how to record all audio and video streams from a Clearly Live video conference session in a single .webm video file stored on the local hard drive of the user who starts the recording.

Procedure

In the Clearly Cloud Management Portal (MGM) at Admin Client level:

Note: This procedure assumes that at least one user already exists in the system. Users are created on the Users page.

  1. Go to Video Conferences.

  1. If a video room already exists, double-click it to edit it. Otherwise, click the + Add a Video Room button at the top of the page to create one.

  2. The following window opens:

    record_vc_1

The Recording Options determine whether the Admin user (the owner/moderator of the video conference session) and/or regular Guest users can start and stop recording during the session. These two checkboxes control whether the Start recording option appears in the More actions menu for each type of user (Admin or Guest).

  3. Click the Save button to save the configuration.

At this point, an Admin user and/or a Guest user, depending on the settings configured in step 3 above, can record all audio and video streams from the conference session in a single video file. To begin, click Start recording in the More actions (‘three dots’) menu:

After you click Start recording, make sure only the Save recording file locally (Beta) toggle is enabled. Then click the Start recording button:

Important notes

Keep the following four important considerations in mind:

A) Immediately after clicking the blue Start recording button, select the correct Clearly Live video conferencing tab. Select the tab, and then click Allow.

B) Other participants are not automatically notified when recording starts. You must expressly notify them.

C) The recording file size limit is 1 GB, which is approximately 100 minutes of recording.

D) Stop the recording before exiting the meeting to save the file. Otherwise, the recording will not be stored. To stop recording, open the More actions (‘three dots’) menu, and then click Stop recording.

That’s it! The resulting recording is a .webm video file stored on the local hard drive of the user who started the recording.
